The UCAN system is a Motorola Type II Smartzone trunking system that is made up of many different trunked systems all linked together to provide wide coverage. You should program in all the different sites you can hear the control channel for, but to hear local agencies you will mainly want to monitor the simulcast site which is closest to you. Also, in the northern area, cell 6 & cell 8 also carry a lot of traffic, but you shouldn't miss much if you are monitoring the local simulcast sites. If you can't receive any of the simulcast sites you can monitor the IR site. IR sites will only have traffic on them if a radio is in that IR sites zone.
