John Atwood (Jatwood619@aol.com) reports on trunking in Calgary:
"There are at least two Motorola systems operating in Calgary, Alberta. There are two frequency groups as determined with an ICOM R-7000 and Deltacom scanning software. I have made the assumption that the standard North American trunk bandplans are in use and I do not seem to be missing any calls, even though many of the bandplan frequencies do not appear to be in use. I have not had time to work out the call groups, but both appear to be Type 1."

Most of the airline ops are probably Air Canada, as Canadian has their own
system; c/s is customer service, ie ticket agents, gate staff.
The RCMP at the airport are on 142.185 as the airport detachment is
closed and policing is provided by Richmond municipal detachment. The old
RCMP GE system is still operating with no traffic other than a simulcast
of 142.185 on 859.8875. Securiguard was using this system along with the
corps of commissionaires but both are now on the YVR trunk. Anyone know
what freq Richmond RCMP call airport info it's not their regular info
channel or the old trunk?

The MTS (Manitoba Telephone System) FleetNet system is a province wide
network, with transmitters located in almost every populated area except for
Northern Manitoba. Talkgroups can be linked province-wide, to areas such as
Falcon Lake, Steinbach, High Bluff, Brandon, Portage La Prairie, and many
other small areas. Most of the rural ambulance and fire department services
are switching over from their older frequencies (ambulance 158.760 MHz, fire
158.925 MHz). Although the new system is where to find the new comms, all
rural emergency vehicles still have the older VHF radios as a back-up.
This is a pretty complex system, so details are not listed here.
Check out Shaun Willingham's most excellent web site at http://www.fleetnet.mb.ca for all the
details on this interesting system.
